PARTNERS

PREP Design has a number of partners who we work closely with to enhance their member’s experience through the provision of the PREP Design solutions.

  • Australia Packaging Covenant Organisation

The Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) is a co-regulatory, not-for-profit organisation that partners with almost 1,000 government and industry organisations to reduce the harmful impact of packaging on the Australian environment.

APCO adopted the PREP for use by its members in January 2018 to underpin the Australasian Recycling Label in association with Planet Ark.

  • OPRL

The On-Pack Recycling Label scheme aims to deliver a simple, consistent and UK-wide recycling message on retailer and brand packaging - whatever your sector - to help consumers recycle more material correctly, more often. That simple consistent message is now recognised by more than 7 in 10 consumers, thanks to the 550 brands now using it. OPRL adopted the PREP for use by its members in April 2018 to underpin the world’s first on-pack recycling label, which was launched in 2009.

PREP On-boarding

The PREP architecture has been built to allow other nations to readily adopt the program. The PREP is primarily applicable for nations that include a commingled recyclables stream that is collected from either kerbside or drop-off points and processed at a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).

There are five main elements of the PREP for each nation:

  1. User interface for products sold in that nation
  2. Customer Data Dashboard for managing PREP users
  3. Settings Dashboard for managing the recyclability thresholds
  4. Kerbside Data Dashboard to upload the kerbside data and nominate the access levels
  5. Authorisation levels table for nominating administrators and technical committee members

Based on our experience in working with OPRL for the products sold in the United Kingdom, we have developed this recommended on-boarding process for additional nations:

  1. Identify a suitable National Host Organisation (NHO) which has members who produce consumer packaging and/or manufacture or sell consumer goods
  2. Submit the kerbside data
  3. Conducting an Alpha trial with the default data
  4. Consulting the local recycling industry
  5. Update technical thresholds and conduct Beta testing
  6. Launch PREP with the NHO member organisations.
